Our Service
Tree Insect & Disease Treatment Service
At N&D Tree & Crane Services, we offer comprehensive services for the diagnosis and treatment of tree insect and disease problems on your Parker property. Our process begins with a thorough inspection by our ISA Certified Arborists, including an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist. They are trained to identify the specific pests or pathogens affecting your trees. They also identify any underlying environmental stressors that may be contributing to the problem. Accurate identification is absolutely crucial. Different insects and diseases require very different treatment strategies. We look for signs like insect entry or exit holes, chewed leaves, fungal growth, cankers, or unusual leaf discoloration to make a precise diagnosis. This expert evaluation is the foundation of an effective treatment plan.
Once we have identified the problem, we develop a customized treatment strategy. This strategy is overseen by our CDoA (Colorado Department of Agriculture) Qualified Supervisor Applicator. This ensures all treatments are safe, effective, and compliant with state regulations. Depending on the specific pest or disease, our treatment methods may include trunk injections, bark sprays, or soil applications. Trunk injections, for example, deliver systemic products directly into the tree’s vascular system. This method is highly targeted, environmentally safe, and very effective for controlling many wood-boring insects and certain diseases. It ensures the product is transported throughout the entire tree.
For other issues, a targeted spray application might be the most effective approach. Our licensed technicians use professional grade equipment to apply treatments carefully. This ensures thorough coverage of the affected areas of the tree while minimizing any off target drift. We are meticulous about timing our applications. We time them to coincide with the most vulnerable stage in a pest’s life cycle or the optimal time for disease control. This science based timing greatly increases the effectiveness of the treatment. It often reduces the total amount of product needed. We use only professional, high quality products that are proven to be effective for the specific issues we encounter in the Parker area.
N&D Tree & Crane Services is a strong proponent of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). IPM is a holistic and environmentally sensitive approach to managing pests and diseases. It focuses on using a combination of strategies to achieve long term, sustainable control. This means we do not always jump straight to chemical treatments. Our IPM approach may also include recommendations for cultural practices. Examples are proper pruning to increase airflow, improving watering habits to reduce tree stress, or diversifying your landscape with pest resistant tree species. These practices can make your landscape less hospitable to pests and diseases in the first place.
Choosing our professional, licensed service is vital for safely and effectively treating tree pests and diseases. The products used for treatment require expert knowledge for proper handling and application. Our CDoA Qualified Supervisor Applicator and certified technicians have the training and licenses required to apply these products correctly. Hiring an insured and certified company like ours protects you, your property, and the environment. It protects you from the risks associated with improper pesticide use. We have the expertise to solve your tree health problems effectively. We do this while upholding the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
Our knowledge of local tree health issues in Parker is extensive. We are experienced in managing common regional problems such as the Mountain Pine Beetle, Ips Beetles in spruce trees, invasive Emerald Ash Borer, and various aphids and scale insects. We also frequently diagnose and treat fungal/bacterial diseases. Examples are cytospora and thyronectria canker aspen trees, as well as fire blight. Our local expertise allows us to quickly recognize the symptoms of these common ailments. We can then implement the most effective treatment protocols. We stay current on the latest research and treatment methods to provide the best possible care for your trees.
Our service extends beyond just a single treatment. We believe in providing ongoing monitoring and support for your landscape’s health. After a treatment, we can provide guidance on what to expect. We can also provide guidance on how to monitor the tree’s recovery. We can also work with you to develop a comprehensive, proactive Plant Health Care (PHC) program for your property. A PHC program involves regular inspections and preventative treatments. This keeps your trees healthy and stops problems before they become severe. This long term partnership is the best way to ensure your landscape remains beautiful, healthy, and resilient for years to come.

Incredibly Professional and Thorough Arborist Services I hired N&D for an expert arborist report related to a neighbor’s hazardous tree, and I couldn’t be more impressed. The report, completed by Logan, was exceptionally well-documented, clearly written, and grounded in professional expertise—no fluff or bias, just a clear and honest assessment based on facts and observation. Communication was smooth, turnaround was quick, and the invoice was fair and easy to pay online. I appreciated the professionalism from start to finish and will definitely be using them again for a follow-up consultation at another property. Highly recommended for anyone needing a knowledgeable, reliable, and objective arborist. — Anna Denver, CO

We recently had N&D come out to perform work across 6.5 acres and I could not be happier with the results. Their professionalism, quality of work, and overall knowledge and honesty was more than we expected. Nik went above and beyond to ensure we were happy customers. Could not be happier with the work that Nik and his crew completed at our property. They were efficient and professional and did an amazing job. 100% would recommend them and will definitely use again.

While we haven't done business with ND tree yet, I was riding my bicycle today and encountered one of their drivers. Extremely patient and courteous, waited the extra 5 seconds for me to get to a safe spot to pass me. I very much appreciate sharing the road with such a conscientious individual!

I recently hired N&D Tree & Crane Service to remove a 100-year-old silver maple from my property, and I couldn’t be more impressed with their service. From start to finish, they were prompt, efficient, and extremely skilled. The team used a crane to safely and carefully remove the tree, which was no small task. Their professionalism and attention to detail were evident throughout the process. The crew was also polite and respectful, taking great care to ensure my property was left in excellent condition after the job was done. I highly recommend this company for anyone looking for expert tree removal services. They exceeded my expectations in every way!

We highly recommend N&D Tree & Crane services! We’ve had the same team out a few times in the past 10 years to manage all of our big trees and they are very courteous, professional and knowledgeable. Plus, they seem to know everything about trees. Our neighbors turned us onto these guys years ago and we’ve consistently had great advice from N&D and we won’t use anyone else.

They did a great job removing several trees for us...some of the trees were in precarious places (leaning on our house). They were thorough and came back to grind a stump even more so it would be flush with our grass. Thanks!

Nik and his crew were excellent. What appeared to us as a very challenging removal of a large tree. These guys made it look easy. We highly recommend them for large tree removal with challenging circumstances. Thank you - well done guys!

We were impacted by the tornado that ripped through Highlands Ranch, CO on 6/22/2023. Our tree was nearly blown down onto our house, but instead was leaning into the house precariously. I was given a recommendation from our normal tree service to call Nik. I spoke with him at 6pm on 6/22 and he was able to get his crane and his crew out to our place just after 8am today (6/23). The tree was out and they were off to the next job in just a few hours. They were personable, professional, knowledgeable, skilled, efficient, and affordable. My family can sleep soundly tonight knowing we and our house are out of danger. We cannot thank Nik and his crew enough!

Nik, Mike and Stephan did a great job for us. We needed a tree removed from our backyard that was over 50 ft tall. They were very knowledgeable and efficient, while also protecting our property. It was incredible to see how they used all their trucks, crane and tools to safely remove our tree. We would highly recommend N&D Tree Services

Nick and his crew arrived at my remote location on time and set immediately to work clearing old grow trees and brush to provide fire mitigation boundaries around the cabin. A relief to have this work completed.

I've used N&D Tree Service for a number of years and they are always top notch. I totally recommend their services.

We've had N&D out to our 40 acre farm in rural Colorado three times over the last couple of years as we were most concerned about fire mitigation. The company has great crews and the heavy equipment to do the job. They've all been on time and work very quickly. The majority of the trees we've had taken down have been chipped, but they neatly cut up (stove length) the trees we wanted to save for our stove. All of the crew are very skilled and practice good safety methods. We highly recommend them.

Nik and his team are great. I used them twice for tree removal and tree trimming. Very professional and well priced.

Nik and his team were fantastic. I got several quotes from different companies and Nik and his crew were priced the best. On the day of the job they showed up on time, walked the trees with me to confirm what was being done and got to work. They trimmed a 40ft tree and removed another that was next to our house and leaning towards the house. They did a great job and were quick as well. They also chipped a bunch of extra branches we had collected from around our property for a minimal fee. I would use them again in a heartbeat and have referred them several time since using them.

I used N&D to trim and remove dead trees. The crew did a great job and cleaned up the yard throughly. My neighbor even asked them to trim some of her trees which they did the following day.

Nik and his crew are always great. I'll be using him in the future no doubt !

The crew came to my house initially to remove a large portion of scrub oak. They did an excellent job, so much so, that I immediately hired them to do additional work planting trees. A month later, they came out and planted several trees in very difficult conditions and were extremely professional. All the work is outstanding and I would not hesitate to recommend them for any size job.

They came out quick to give me and my neighbor a quote. Nik is very professional and clearly knows what he is doing. We got the quote the next day and scheduled the service. (Removal of 3 aspens and 1 maple.). They showed up on time the day we agreed to and got all the trees out with no issues. They took extra time to really clean everything up. We were impressed and would use them again.

Most Common Tree Insect & Disease Questions
Seeing your valuable trees look sick or infested with insects is concerning for any Parker homeowner. Understanding the common threats and treatment options is the first step toward restoring their health. Our experts are here to provide the clear answers you need.
There are several key signs that can indicate your trees are suffering from an insect infestation or a disease. One of the most common things to look for is a change in the leaves. This could include unusual discoloration like yellowing or browning spots. It could also include leaves that are wilted, distorted, or have holes chewed in them. Or it could be premature leaf drop during the growing season. Examining the trunk and branches is also important. Look for signs like peeling or chipping bark, cracks or cankers (sunken areas of dead bark), and the presence of fungal bodies like mushrooms growing on the wood.
Another clear indicator of an insect problem is the physical presence of the insects themselves. Or you might see the evidence they leave behind. You might see small holes in the bark. Sometimes these holes have a sawdust like material called “frass” being pushed out. This is a classic sign of wood-boring insects. You might also notice sticky “honeydew” on leaves or surfaces below the tree. This is excreted by piercing/sucking insects like aphids or scale insects. Or you might see visible scale insects that look like small bumps on the branches.
Webbing in the canopy, created by pests like tent caterpillars, is another obvious sign of an infestation.
Observing the tree’s overall vigor can also provide clues. A general thinning of the canopy, stunted growth of new twigs, or dieback of branches from the top down are all symptoms that the tree is under significant stress. This could be due to a root disease, a vascular wilt disease, or a severe insect infestation. If you notice any of these signs on your Parker trees, it is a strong indication that it is time to call our professional arborists. Contact N&D Tree & Crane Services for an accurate diagnosis and a plan of action.
Treating Mountain Pine Beetle and other bark beetles, a highly destructive pests of pine trees in Colorado, requires a proactive and preventative approach. There is no effective cure once a tree is successfully infested. The primary and most effective treatment method our team at N&D Tree & Crane Services uses is a pheromone treatment or a preventative insecticide trunk spray. These applications must be done before the beetles fly. This is typically in early to mid summer.
Pheromone treatments utilize a chemical called verbenone which mimics the pheromone produced by female beetles to identify a tree as already infested and tell them to move on. By utilizing this to our advantage, we can trick beetles into avoiding healthy trees. Making it appear as though they are already infected. This treatment technique is a safe and effective alternative to insecticide sprays.
For trees that are already infested, the options are unfortunately limited. A lightly infested tree might sometimes be saved if the infestation is caught extremely early. However, this is never guaranteed. Often, once a pine tree has been successfully attacked by bark beetles, the tree will not survive. This is indicated by numerous pitch tubes and frass. In these cases, the recommended course of action is to remove the infested tree promptly. This prevents the newly hatched generation of beetles from emerging and attacking other healthy pine trees on your property or in the surrounding neighborhood. Our team can safely remove these hazardous trees.
Fire Blight are popular in Parker landscapes. The disease gets its name from the characteristic symptom it produces. Affected branches and shoots suddenly wilt and turn black. They look as though they have been scorched by fire. You may also see a “shepherd’s crook” shape at the tip of infected shoots. During wet spring weather, a creamy bacterial ooze may also be visible on infected parts of the tree.
Treatment for fire blight is challenging and requires an integrated approach. The most important management strategy is sanitation pruning. Our arborists at N&D Tree & Crane Services can carefully prune out all infected branches and twigs during the tree’s dormant season. It is critical to make these cuts well into healthy wood. This should be at least 12 inches below any visible sign of infection. It is also important to sanitize the pruning tools between each cut to avoid spreading the bacteria. Removing and destroying this infected wood is essential.
It reduces the amount of bacteria that can cause new infections the following spring. In addition to pruning, preventative treatments can help manage the disease. For highly susceptible or valuable trees, we can apply specialized bactericide or antibiotic sprays or injections during the flowering period. These sprays are designed to protect the blossoms. Blossoms are a primary entry point for the bacteria into the tree. The timing of these applications is critical. It must be coordinated with the tree’s bloom time and weather conditions. While there is no “cure” for fire blight once it’s in the tree, a combination of diligent sanitation pruning and preventative sprays can effectively manage the disease. It can also keep your valuable ornamental trees healthy.
Black spots on aspen leaves are a very common issue for homeowners in the Parker area. They are typically caused by a fungal disease. Most often it is Marssonina leaf spot. Less commonly, it is ink spot disease. Marssonina leaf spot usually appears as dark brown to black flecks on the leaves. Sometimes it has a yellow halo around them. As the disease progresses, these spots can merge. This causes large portions of the leaf to turn black. It can lead to significant premature leaf drop, often by late summer.
While it can be visually alarming, this disease does not usually kill the tree outright. However, it can weaken it over time. The fungus that causes this disease overwinters on the fallen, infected leaves from the previous year. In the spring, during wet weather, fungal spores are released from these old leaves. They are splashed or blown up into the new, developing leaves of the tree. This starts the infection cycle all over again. Therefore, one of the most important management techniques is good sanitation. In the fall, after the leaves have dropped, it is very important to rake up and remove all the fallen aspen leaves from under the tree.
This simple action can significantly reduce the amount of fungal spores available to cause infections the next spring. For trees that are severely affected year after year, or for high value ornamental specimens, fungicide treatments can be effective. Our team at N&D Tree & Crane Services can apply a protective fungicide spray in the spring as the new leaves are emerging. This spray coats the new leaves. It prevents the fungal spores from being able to successfully infect them. Several applications may be needed, especially during a wet spring. This provides continuous protection. Our CDoA licensed applicators can determine the best product and timing for your specific situation. This will help keep your aspen leaves healthy and green throughout the season.
Trunk injection is a modern, highly effective, and environmentally responsible method our team at N&D Tree & Crane Services uses. We use it to treat many types of insect and disease problems. The process involves drilling small holes into the base of the tree’s trunk. We then insert specialized ports. We then use a controlled pressure system to inject a concentrated, systemic product directly into the tree’s vascular tissues. Specifically, we inject it into the xylem. The tree’s natural circulatory system then transports the product up the trunk. It moves throughout the branches, and into the leaves.
This provides protection for the entire tree from the inside out. This method offers several significant advantages over traditional spraying. First, it is highly targeted. Since the product is contained entirely within the tree, there is no chemical drift or runoff. This makes it very safe for the surrounding environment. This includes beneficial insects like pollinators, as well as for people and pets. Second, it is incredibly efficient. A much smaller amount of product is needed compared to foliar sprays. It provides longer lasting protection.
This is often for an entire season or even multiple years, depending on the product and the target pest. Trunk injections are particularly effective for controlling certain types of pests and diseases. They are the preferred method for managing many boring insects. Examples are the Emerald Ash Borer or the Ips Beetle. This is because the product is already inside the tree waiting for the insect to feed. They are also effective for certain systemic diseases. They can also provide micronutrients to treat deficiencies like iron chlorosis. Our ISA Certified Arborists and CDoA licensed applicators are highly trained in these modern application techniques. This ensures a safe and effective treatment for your valuable Parker trees.
Many spruce trees in Parker and throughout the Front Range are facing significant health challenges. This often leads to decline and death. One of the most common culprits is the Ips Beetle. This is a type of bark beetle that is highly destructive to spruce trees. This is particularly true during periods of drought stress. Unlike the Mountain Pine Beetle, Ips Beetles can have multiple generations per year. This allows them to attack and kill trees relatively quickly. You can identify an Ips attack by the presence of reddish brown boring dust.
This dust is similar to sawdust. It collects in the bark crevices and at the base of the tree. Another extremely common issue affecting local spruce trees is Cytospora canker. This is a fungal disease that typically attacks branches from the bottom of the tree upwards. The most obvious symptom is the browning and death of entire branches. There is often a conspicuous white, resinous sap oozing from cankers (dead areas) on the affected branches. This disease also thrives when trees are under stress. This can be from factors like drought, poor planting location, or soil compaction.
There is no chemical cure for Cytospora canker. Management relies on improving tree vigor. It also relies on carefully pruning out diseased limbs during dry weather to reduce its spread. At N&D Tree & Crane Services, our ISA Certified Arborists are experts at diagnosing the specific issues affecting your spruce trees. We can determine if the problem is Ips Beetles, Cytospora canker, another pest or disease, or a combination of factors. For Ips Beetles, we can provide preventative trunk sprays to protect healthy trees from attack. For canker diseases and general decline, we may recommend a program of deep root fertilization. This improves the tree’s vigor. We might also recommend corrective pruning to remove diseased wood. And we might suggest adjustments to watering practices to reduce stress. A comprehensive approach is key to improving the health of our area’s spruce trees.
Yes, preventative treatments are a cornerstone of our Plant Health Care philosophy at N&D Tree & Crane Services. We strongly believe that it is far more effective, economical, and environmentally responsible to prevent tree health problems. We want to prevent them before they become severe. Our team can work with you to develop a proactive, customized Plant Health Care (PHC) program for your Parker property. This program is designed to monitor the health of your landscape. It also applies preventative treatments at key times throughout the year. This keeps your trees and shrubs healthy and resilient.
A typical PHC program begins with a thorough inventory and assessment of your landscape by one of our ISA Certified Arborists. We identify your high value trees and shrubs. We also assess their current health and potential risks. Based on this, we can schedule preventative treatments for known, predictable pest and disease issues. For example, this includes applying preventative trunk sprays to protect susceptible pine and spruce trees from bark beetles. It could also include treating crabapple trees to prevent common fungal leaf diseases before they take hold in the spring.
Beyond specific pest and disease treatments, our PHC programs also focus on bolstering the fundamental health of your plants. This often includes services like deep root fertilization. This ensures your trees have the nutrients they need to thrive and defend themselves. It also involves expert structural pruning to remove weak points and improve air circulation. This makes the trees less susceptible to storm damage and disease. By partnering with us for a proactive PHC program, you are making a commitment to the long term health, safety, and beauty of your landscape. You will also often avoid more costly, reactive treatments in the future.
The safety of your children, pets, and the overall environment is a top priority for N&D Tree & Crane Services. This is true in all our treatment applications. We achieve this by strictly adhering to a professional, integrated approach. A key part of our strategy is the use of modern application methods. An example is trunk injections, which are inherently safe for the surrounding area. When we inject a product directly into the tree, it remains contained within the tree’s vascular system. This means there is no residue on the bark, leaves, or ground for a child or pet to come into contact with.
This method eliminates any risk of exposure. When a spray application is necessary, our CDoA licensed technicians are trained to perform the work with the utmost care and responsibility. We use targeted spray patterns to focus the product only on the intended tree or shrub. This minimizes off target drift. We also carefully monitor weather conditions, especially wind. We will only spray when conditions are calm and safe to do so. After a spray application, we will give you specific instructions on when it is safe to re enter the treated area.
This is typically just after the product has had sufficient time to dry on the plant surfaces. Furthermore, our CDoA Qualified Supervisor Applicator ensures that we are always using the appropriate, professionally regulated products for each specific problem. We follow all Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and product label instructions meticulously. These labels provide explicit guidelines on safe application procedures and re entry intervals to protect public health. By choosing a licensed and insured professional company like N&D Tree & Crane Services, you can be confident that all treatments on your Parker property will be performed effectively. They will also be performed with the highest regard for the safety of your entire family.
