Our Service
Tree Planting Service
At N&D Tree & Crane Services, we provide expert tree planting services, carefully designed to ensure the successful establishment and enduring health of your new trees in Parker. Our process commences with a thorough consultation. During this, our ISA Certified Arborists discuss your vision, assess your specific site conditions, and assist you in selecting the most suitable tree species. We evaluate factors such as soil type, sunlight exposure, available space for mature growth, existing drainage patterns, and your personal aesthetic preferences. Our team possesses extensive knowledge of trees that thrive in Colorado’s unique climate and varied soil conditions. To give your new additions the best possible start, we source high quality, healthy trees exclusively from reputable local nurseries. Proper species selection is absolutely fundamental for a tree’s future success and its overall longevity in your landscape. We guide you through this important decision making process, lending our professional expertise every step of the way.
Our tree planting methodology strictly adheres to current arboricultural best practices. This promotes optimal root development and robust tree vigor from day one. We begin by preparing the planting site meticulously, making sure the hole is dug to the correct width and depth for the specific tree. Typically, the hole is prepared to be one and a half to two times wider than the root ball. This wider excavation allows the roots to spread easily into the surrounding native soil. Before planting, our team carefully inspects the tree’s root system, expertly addressing any circling roots that could potentially hinder future growth and stability and remove excess soil around the tree to achieve optimal soil depth. We then remove the cage/container and gently place the tree in the hole, ensuring it is perfectly straight and positioned at the proper depth, with the critical root flare visible at the soil line. Correct planting depth is one of the most vital factors for a new tree’s survival and establishment.
Once the tree is correctly positioned, our team backfills the hole with the original soil. We avoid excessive amendments so as to not hinder its root growth into the native soils. We lightly tamp the soil around the root ball. This step helps to eliminate large air pockets while carefully preventing over compaction that can restrict root growth. Proper watering immediately after planting is essential to settle the soil and provide crucial initial hydration to the tree. We will provide you with detailed, easy to follow instructions on how to water your new tree effectively during its important establishment period. We genuinely want your new tree to flourish for years to come.
N&D Tree & Crane Services also offers valuable advice on correctly mulching your newly planted trees. We generally recommend applying a two to three inch layer of organic mulch around the base of the tree. We ensure it is kept a few inches away from the trunk itself to prevent moisture related issues. Mulch helps conserve precious soil moisture, effectively suppress unwanted weed growth, regulate soil temperature against extremes, and gradually add beneficial organic matter to the soil as it decomposes. However, the practice of “volcano mulching,” where mulch is piled high directly against the tree trunk, should always be avoided. It can lead to serious problems like trunk rot and pest infestations. Our team ensures mulching is done correctly to truly benefit your new tree. We can also discuss staking requirements if they are necessary for your specific tree type and particular site conditions.
Choosing our professional tree planting service ensures your significant investment is protected. Your new trees will have the best possible chance of thriving in their new Parker home. Many common and costly tree problems can often be traced back to improper planting techniques used at the time of installation. Our ISA Certified Arborists and experienced crew fully understand the nuances of correct tree installation. This includes handling the delicate root ball carefully to ensure precise planting depth and appropriate soil preparation. We are fully insured, providing you with complete peace of mind throughout the entire planting process. N&D Tree & Crane Services is dedicated to enhancing the green canopy of Parker, one carefully planted tree at a time. We take immense pride in our meticulous and knowledgeable approach to every tree planting project.
Our team is equipped with the right tools and the deep horticultural knowledge required to plant trees of various sizes. This ranges from smaller container grown trees to larger balled and burlapped specimens. We carefully consider all the logistics involved in transporting and handling larger trees. This prevents any damage to the tree itself or to your property during the process. We can expertly advise on the best time of year for planting specific tree species in Colorado, generally spring or fall. This timing takes advantage of milder temperatures and more adequate natural moisture. Our comprehensive service includes detailed site assessment, expert species selection guidance, professional installation according to industry standards, and clear initial care instructions. We are truly passionate about trees and want to share that passion by helping you grow beautiful, healthy trees that will last.
After planting, our commitment to your new tree’s success continues. We can provide ongoing, valuable advice for its long term care. Incredibly Professional and Thorough Arborist Services I hired N&D for an expert arborist report related to a neighbor’s hazardous tree, and I couldn’t be more impressed. The report, completed by Logan, was exceptionally well-documented, clearly written, and grounded in professional expertise—no fluff or bias, just a clear and honest assessment based on facts and observation. Communication was smooth, turnaround was quick, and the invoice was fair and easy to pay online. I appreciated the professionalism from start to finish and will definitely be using them again for a follow-up consultation at another property. Highly recommended for anyone needing a knowledgeable, reliable, and objective arborist. — Anna Denver, CO

We recently had N&D come out to perform work across 6.5 acres and I could not be happier with the results. Their professionalism, quality of work, and overall knowledge and honesty was more than we expected. Nik went above and beyond to ensure we were happy customers. I would highly recommend N&D to anyone and will personally use them again.

Could not be happier with the work that Nik and his crew completed at our property. They were efficient and professional and did an amazing job. 100% would recommend them and will definitely use again.

While we haven't done business with ND tree yet, I was riding my bicycle today and encountered one of their drivers. Extremely patient and courteous, waited the extra 5 seconds for me to get to a safe spot to pass me. I very much appreciate sharing the road with such a conscientious individual!

I recently hired N&D Tree & Crane Service to remove a 100-year-old silver maple from my property, and I couldn’t be more impressed with their service. From start to finish, they were prompt, efficient, and extremely skilled. The team used a crane to safely and carefully remove the tree, which was no small task. Their professionalism and attention to detail were evident throughout the process. The crew was also polite and respectful, taking great care to ensure my property was left in excellent condition after the job was done. I highly recommend this company for anyone looking for expert tree removal services. They exceeded my expectations in every way!

We highly recommend N&D Tree & Crane services! We’ve had the same team out a few times in the past 10 years to manage all of our big trees and they are very courteous, professional and knowledgeable. Plus, they seem to know everything about trees. Our neighbors turned us onto these guys years ago and we’ve consistently had great advice from N&D and we won’t use anyone else.

They did a great job removing several trees for us...some of the trees were in precarious places (leaning on our house). They were thorough and came back to grind a stump even more so it would be flush with our grass. Thanks!

Nik and his crew were excellent. What appeared to us as a very challenging removal of a large tree. These guys made it look easy. We highly recommend them for large tree removal with challenging circumstances. Thank you - well done guys!

We were impacted by the tornado that ripped through Highlands Ranch, CO on 6/22/2023. Our tree was nearly blown down onto our house, but instead was leaning into the house precariously. I was given a recommendation from our normal tree service to call Nik. I spoke with him at 6pm on 6/22 and he was able to get his crane and his crew out to our place just after 8am today (6/23). The tree was out and they were off to the next job in just a few hours. They were personable, professional, knowledgeable, skilled, efficient, and affordable. My family can sleep soundly tonight knowing we and our house are out of danger. We cannot thank Nik and his crew enough!

Nik, Mike and Stephan did a great job for us. We needed a tree removed from our backyard that was over 50 ft tall. They were very knowledgeable and efficient, while also protecting our property. It was incredible to see how they used all their trucks, crane and tools to safely remove our tree. We would highly recommend N&D Tree Services

Nick and his crew arrived at my remote location on time and set immediately to work clearing old grow trees and brush to provide fire mitigation boundaries around the cabin. A relief to have this work completed.

I've used N&D Tree Service for a number of years and they are always top notch. I totally recommend their services.

We've had N&D out to our 40 acre farm in rural Colorado three times over the last couple of years as we were most concerned about fire mitigation. The company has great crews and the heavy equipment to do the job. They've all been on time and work very quickly. The majority of the trees we've had taken down have been chipped, but they neatly cut up (stove length) the trees we wanted to save for our stove. All of the crew are very skilled and practice good safety methods. We highly recommend them.

Nik and his team are great. I used them twice for tree removal and tree trimming. Very professional and well priced.

Nik and his team were fantastic. I got several quotes from different companies and Nik and his crew were priced the best. On the day of the job they showed up on time, walked the trees with me to confirm what was being done and got to work. They trimmed a 40ft tree and removed another that was next to our house and leaning towards the house. They did a great job and were quick as well. They also chipped a bunch of extra branches we had collected from around our property for a minimal fee. I would use them again in a heartbeat and have referred them several time since using them.

I used N&D to trim and remove dead trees. The crew did a great job and cleaned up the yard throughly. My neighbor even asked them to trim some of her trees which they did the following day.

Nik and his crew are always great. I'll be using him in the future no doubt !

They prices are reasonable, their personnel are professional and safety conscious, they are quick, efficient and clean up when they are done. The crew came to my house initially to remove a large portion of scrub oak. They did an excellent job, so much so, that I immediately hired them to do additional work planting trees. A month later, they came out and planted several trees in very difficult conditions and were extremely professional. All the work is outstanding and I would not hesitate to recommend them for any size job.

They came out quick to give me and my neighbor a quote. Nik is very professional and clearly knows what he is doing. We got the quote the next day and scheduled the service. (Removal of 3 aspens and 1 maple.). They showed up on time the day we agreed to and got all the trees out with no issues. They took extra time to really clean everything up. We were impressed and would use them again.

Most Common Tree Planting Questions
Planting a new tree is an exciting addition to your Parker landscape, and our clients often have questions about the process. We want to ensure you have all the information needed to feel confident about your new trees. Our team is here to provide expert answers and support.
Choosing the “best” tree for Colorado, particularly in Parker, hinges on your specific site conditions and landscaping goals. Our state’s climate presents unique challenges.
These include variable temperatures, low humidity, often alkaline soils, and occasional drought. Selecting resilient, adapted species is paramount. Excellent choices frequently include native trees like Ponderosa Pine and Colorado Blue Spruce. Both are naturally suited to our environment. For deciduous shade trees, certain Maples , Oaks, Lindens, and Honeylocusts can perform well if carefully chosen for the site. Our N&D Tree & Crane Services team always recommends a thorough site assessment before making any final decisions. This ensures a good match between tree and location.
When selecting a tree, our ISA Certified Arborists consider factors like your soil type and the amount of daily sunlight the area receives. We also look at the available space for mature growth, both above and below ground, and proximity to structures or utility lines. We then discuss your preferences for tree size, desired shape, fall color, or whether you prefer an evergreen or deciduous variety. For instance, if you need a smaller ornamental tree, Serviceberry or certain Hawthorn varieties might be suitable choices. Matching the tree’s mature characteristics with your landscape’s limitations and opportunities is crucial. This planning prevents future issues like overcrowding or root damage. Careful planning at this stage is invaluable.
Ultimately, there isn’t one single “best” tree. Instead, there is the best tree for your specific situation and yard. N&D Tree & Crane Services specializes in helping Parker homeowners make these informed decisions effectively. We source healthy, high quality trees from reputable local nurseries. This ensures they are already acclimated to our region’s conditions. Our expertise ensures you select a tree that will not only survive but truly thrive. It will add beauty and value to your property for many years. Based on a professional evaluation of your yard, we can provide a tailored list of recommended trees perfectly suited for your needs.
Newly planted trees require consistent, adequate watering. This is especially true during their first one to two years as they work to establish their root systems in a new Parker environment. The exact amount and frequency of watering will depend on several factors. These include the tree species, its overall size, your specific soil type, current weather conditions (temperature, rainfall, wind), and the time of year. Our N&D Tree & Crane Services team provides specific watering guidelines tailored to your new tree and its unique site conditions. Generally, for the first few weeks after planting, more frequent watering, perhaps two to three times a week, might be necessary. This keeps the root
ball consistently moist but importantly, not waterlogged.
A good general guideline is to apply approximately 10 gallons of water per inch of the tree’s trunk diameter at each watering session. For example, a young tree with a two inch diameter trunk would benefit from about 20 gallons of water each time you water. It is almost always better to water deeply and less frequently than it is to water shallowly and often. Deep watering encourages the tree’s roots to grow deeper into the soil. This in turn makes the tree more drought tolerant and resilient over time. We recommend using a slow soak method. Examples are a soaker hose, tree gator, or letting a regular garden hose trickle slowly at the base of the tree over an extended period, allowing water to penetrate deeply.
Remember, overwatering can be just as harmful to a new tree as underwatering. It can potentially lead to root rot and other issues. Our team at N&D Tree & Crane Services will provide you with clear, easy to follow instructions on how to properly water your newly planted tree. This ensures its successful establishment and promotes its long term health. Our goal is to set you up for success.
In most situations, our N&D Tree & Crane Services team generally advises against fertilizing a new tree immediately at the time of planting. This is particularly true with high nitrogen fertilizers. Newly planted trees are often under some stress as they adapt to their new environment. Their primary energy focus is on root establishment and growth, not necessarily rapid top foliar growth. Adding fertilizer right away can sometimes hinder this crucial root development. The main focus during this initial phase should be on providing good soil conditions and ensuring adequate, consistent water.
Most soils in the Parker area already contain sufficient nutrients for a young tree to begin its growth successfully. Before even considering fertilizer, it’s far more important to ensure the tree is planted correctly at the proper depth. The soil must have good structure to allow for root growth. It also must receive appropriate watering. If there is a known, specific nutrient deficiency in your soil, a professional soil test can determine this. Then a slow release fertilizer or specific organic amendments might be beneficial. However, this should always be guided by professional advice from an arborist. Our ISA Certified Arborists can assess your soil and make sound recommendations if fertilization is truly needed.
Once the tree has become well established, typically after the first year or two, a light application of a balanced, slow release fertilizer might be considered. It’s important to note that over fertilizing can be detrimental to tree health.
The best times for planting most trees in Parker, CO, and indeed along the Front Range, are generally during the milder spring and fall seasons. Planting in the spring, after the ground has fully thawed but before the intense heat of summer arrives, allows the tree to begin establishing its root system before facing
the hot, dry weather in late summer. Cooler temperatures and typically more consistent natural moisture in spring provide favorable conditions for new root growth and development. Our N&D Tree & Crane Services team often schedules many of our clients’ planting projects during this optimal window. This is roughly from April through late June each year. This timing gives trees a strong start.
Fall planting, usually from September through October (and sometimes even into early November if the weather remains mild), presents another excellent opportunity for tree installation for deciduous trees. During the fall months, the soil is still warm enough to encourage continued root growth. The cooling air temperatures reduce water loss from the leaves and lessen overall stress on the tree. Fall planting is generally not recommended for evergreen trees as they still remain partially active through winter, making them susceptible to drive winter conditions where watering is more challenging.
Summer planting can be done if necessary. However, it is generally more challenging for new trees due to high temperatures and increased water demand. Trees planted in summer require more diligent and frequent watering, along with careful monitoring, to ensure their survival and proper establishment. Winter planting is typically avoided in our region because the ground is often frozen and deciduous trees are fully dormant. This makes successful planting difficult. Our ISA Certified Arborists can expertly advise you on the optimal planting window for the specific tree species you are considering.
We take into account current local weather patterns. We always aim to plant your trees when conditions are most conducive to their successful establishment and long term health.
The proper spacing for planting trees depends significantly on the mature size and ultimate spread of the tree species you select. It also depends on your specific landscaping goals and property layout. Our N&D Tree & Crane Services team strongly emphasizes planning for the tree’s future growth. This helps to avoid issues like overcrowding and other common problems down the line. For large shade trees, which can easily have mature canopy spreads of 40 to 60 feet or even more, they should generally be planted at least 20 to 30 feet away from each other. They also need this distance from structures such as your Parker home. This distance allows ample room for their canopies to develop fully without interference and for their extensive root systems to expand naturally.
Smaller ornamental trees or fruit trees typically require less space. They perhaps need 10 to 20 feet between them, depending on their specific mature dimensions. When planting trees to create a privacy screen or a dense hedge, they can often be planted closer together. However, the specific spacing will still depend heavily on the chosen species and the desired final density of the screen. It is absolutely crucial to research, or to consult with our arborists, about the mature dimensions of any tree. This should be done before deciding on its final placement in your landscape. Overcrowding can lead to intense competition for sunlight, water, and essential nutrients. This results in poor growth, increased susceptibility to pests and diseases, and an overall less attractive appearance for your trees.
Our ISA Certified Arborists will assist you in carefully planning the layout of your new trees. We consider their mature size, your property lines, and proximity to any utility lines (both above and below ground). We also look at driveways, sidewalks, and other existing landscape features. Proper spacing not only ensures the individual health and beauty of your trees. It also contributes to a well balanced, functional, and aesthetically pleasing overall landscape design. We help you avoid future conflicts and ensure your trees have the adequate room they need to flourish. They can reach their full potential for many years of enjoyment. This foresight is key to a successful, low maintenance landscape.
One of the most common and detrimental mistakes our N&D Tree & Crane Services team observes is planting a tree too deep in the ground. The root flare, which is the point where the trunk widens at its base and transitions into the root system, should always be visible. It should be at or slightly above the final soil line after planting. Burying the root flare can unfortunately lead to serious issues. These include trunk girdling by roots, root rot due to excess moisture and lack of oxygen, and eventual tree decline or even death. Another frequent error is digging the planting hole too narrow and too deep, resembling a post hole. This practice severely restricts outward root growth and is highly discouraged. The hole should always be wide and relatively shallow, allowing roots to spread easily into the surrounding native soil.
Amending the backfill soil in the planting hole too heavily with excessive organic matter is another common mistake. This is often done with good intentions. However, creating a “luxury suite” of overly rich soil just for the roots can actually discourage them from venturing out. They may avoid the often less fertile native soil of your Parker yard. This can result in a tree that effectively becomes root bound within the confines of the amended hole. It is generally much better to use the native soil for backfill. If soil quality is a major concern, consider improving a larger area around the tree rather than just the small planting hole itself. Over mulching, especially piling mulch high against the tree trunk like a “volcano,” is also very harmful. It can cause excessive moisture buildup, leading to decay and attracting pests to the vulnerable trunk.
Other common mistakes include selecting the wrong tree species for the specific site conditions. An example is planting a sun loving tree in a deeply shaded spot. Another is choosing a large maturing tree for a very small, confined space. Improper watering, either too much or too little, is also a frequent cause of problems for newly planted trees. Furthermore, not addressing circling roots on container grown trees before planting can lead to future girdling issues as the tree grows. By hiring our professional N&D Tree & Crane Services team, you can confidently avoid these common pitfalls. This ensures your valuable new tree gets the best possible start for a long and healthy life.
